These little babies are my new favorite cookie! They are so easy, and just as cute, if I do say so myself:)
I took a couple of full platters to a baby shower that my daughter's friends from church put on for her. Though tiny, they were a huge hit! People were even sneaking them out the door in paper cups:)
I made these same cookie bites once before, in April, when my other daughter had a baby. I piled them into a cute jar, wrapped a pink ribbon around the lid, and finished it off with a darling tag. My daughter loved it and the cookies were so tiny that the munchkins didn't experience sugar overload with a small handful.
I used my favorite sugar cookie recipe and royal icing (I know I sound like a broken record, but I might as well stick with the best). The little cookies were cut out with a 1-inch round cutter (it was a component of another cutter-letter "R", I think. I actually have a few of these tiny cutters). They were rolled out about 1/2-inch thick.
The royal icing was tinted according to Callye's ( The Sweet Adventures of Sugabelle) formula for achieving the light skintone color: 2 parts warm brown + 1 part ivory~AmeriColor soft gel paste. Worked like a charm! Thanks, Callye!
I was newly inspired to make these again when I spied Paula's (Vanilla Bean Baker) adorable ladybug cookies the other day. I decorated the baby faces with a black AmeriColor Gourmet writer after the icing was completely dry. How simple is that? :)
The Baby Cookie Bites are so delicious and fun to eat, but be careful, it's easy to get carried away!

I am giving these a try and it's my first time doing any kind of iced cookie. Did you outline the circle of icing first or just spoon it on? Wish me luck!!! I adore these!!!! THANKS!
ReplyDeleteAnita,
ReplyDeleteI don't see an email or link for you, so...
I did not outline these cookies. I just used an icing bag(filled with royal icing), a Wilton #3 tip, and spiraled around the cookie, starting from the outside edge, ending in the center. You may want to experiemnt until you achieve the right consistency for the royal icing~not too thick, not too thin, but just right:)
Good luck and have fun!
What did you use to draw the baby faces? Is that icing too?
ReplyDeletebeccalovesart,
ReplyDeleteI decorated the baby faces with a black AmeriColor Gourmet writer after the icing was completely dry.
Aww these are so stinkin adorable!!! They would have been so fun to have out on the table at the baby shower. I wish I had seen your post earlier. Too cute! Thanks for sharing Sue!
ReplyDeleteHow many cookies does this make? They are too cute!
ReplyDeleteI use the sugar cookie recipe posted on my blog:
Deletehttp://www.munchkinmunchies.com/2009/05/no-fail-sugar-cookies.html
It's been awhile since I made these, but I think the recipe makes about 150 cookie bites. I roll the dough out just under a 1/2-inch thick. Hope this helps:)
