I think this set is just about the most fun I've had making cookies in awhile:) They are super simple! If you can hold a pen and write, you can make these cookies too, lickety-split! They are all sugar cookies with white royal icing, decorated with edible markers:) I did add a couple of royal icing hearts as postage stamps (and some tiny heart cookies) here and there, but that was about it.
The markers didn't always turn out as fine-point as I would have liked them to, but in the end I was happy with the cookies. All these special delivery cookies are going to my grandkids/kids, and I hope they like them. They are sent with a heart full of love to each of my very sweet, special valentines:)
I even went out of my comfort zone and made them each a handmade, felt envelope for the biggest cookies of the bunch. It would have looked really cute with stitching, but I haven't used my sewing machine in ages, and was short on time (excuses, excuses), so resorted to the good ol' glue gun to hold the envelopes together! Velcro fastens in the back to close them up. I adore felt crafts, and admire so many all over the internet, that I was finally happy to have completed one craft with felt, simple though it was. Next time, I vow to get my sewing machine out of the closet! Did you notice the personalized "With Love from Grandma" ribbon? I purchased it from Pick Your Plum and I love it!

Happy Valentine's Day!

ReplyDeleteyou are THE best grandma ever! and felt envelopes too, way too cool! Not sure if it will help, but i sometimes dip my edible markers in some diluted food gel (dilute a tiny bit with vanilla or other extract) to get a darker line--or i've even used a fine point paintbrush (used just for food of course). Have not found a excellent fine point edible marker yet so making due with what's out there ;)

The felt envelopes were a wonderful idea to hold some of the cookies. I used to know how to use a sewing machine (home Ec in HS lol), but now the best I can do is stitch a hole messily by hand lol
