When I was putting my Valentine cookie cutters away last month, I regretted the fact that I had never made any cookies using my new, double heart cookie cutter. Then a thought popped into my head that I could use it to make some bunnies (with perfect spots for ears) for Easter:)
The bunting was added for a little bit of color and pizazz.
They were pretty simple to make, and the little, twin bunny faces turned out pretty cute, if I do say so myself.
If you'd like to make your own bunny buddies, start by whipping up a batch of your favorite sugar cookie dough and royal icing.
Roll out the dough and use a double heart cookie cutter ( or oval or rectangle, whatever you have) to cut out the cookies. Bake.
With a #3 tip and royal icing, outline a bunny onto the cookies (I first made the circle for the head, and then added the ears).
After the outline dries for about 15 minutes, fill in the bunny with white royal icing.
Add the bunting string with the #3 tip and white royal icing.
Using gel food coloring make a few different coloring of royal icing for the bunting.
With a #1 tip make the bunting, alternating the colors.
Let bunnies dry overnight.
Using food markers, add the details to the bunnies' ears and faces.
Don't they make you smile? :)
