Cookies {on a straw} and Milk for Valentine's Day

Walking through Target the other day, I picked up some pretty, striped straws that were decorated with sturdy, paper hearts. Immediately, I thought of a cookie version and grabbed the straws as a reminder to make them:) Besides, you can never have too many cute straws.
These were super simple, made even simpler with the fact that I had leftover dough from my two-tone heart cookies. Hooray!

Who wouldn't love to drink their milk with a pretty straw and a sugar cookie to boot?!?  I know I would!  Just pull the cookie from the straw, and there you go. Ready to eat, or to dip in the milk:)

These straw cookies & milk would be great as a Valentine treat for your children, grandchildren, or their classmates.  Wrap them each in a cellophane bag wrapped in a ribbon and you're good to go.  Better yet, package it up with a little carton of milk:)

Cookies on a Straw
Royal icing
Heart cookie cutter (I used a 1.5-inch)
Straws (multicolored, striped)

Roll out the cookie dough (I rolled it out 1/4-inch thick).
Cut out cookies with heart cutter and transfer to a parchment lined baking sheet. Bake according to recipe.
Let cookies cool completely on a cooling rack.
Make the royal icing.
Decorate the cooled cookies with the royal icing, and let them dry.
Attach the cookies to the straws with a dab of royal icing. Let dry*.

*To help them dry without rolling to the side, I placed a straw on each side of the cookie adorned straw to hold it steady.  Worked like a charm!

Have Fun!
